It has been established that our subconsious cannot distinguish between reality and imagination. The images we impress upon our mind, especially when accompanied with emotion, give the same experience whether they are true or untrue. Under deep hypnosis when a pencil eraser touches a hypnotised person's arm who is told it is in fact a lit cigarette, their arm will burn. Similarly, when a lit cigarette is placed on the person's arm and they are told it is just an eraser, no blister develops........
